Learning and caring together

Tuesday 2nd March

Hello Reception,

Happy Tuesday! This morning we are going to do ‘talking Tuesday’. Spend a few moments talking to your family about coming back to school. Are you feeling happy to come back to school? Are you feeling a bit nervous to come back to school? You could talk about why you are feeling like that and what you could do to help.

Please remember I will do 2 drop-in zoom sessions a day, one at 10.30am and one at 2pm. You can ask any questions you wish to or show me some of your work. I will also read a story on an afternoon so feel free to drop in.

This morning’s job is to practice writing our words. I would like you to practice the words from last week and see if you can remember how to do them on your own. The words were: jet, win, van and pup. I would like you to put one of those words into a sentence and have a go at writing it. You could try on your own at first then if you get stuck ask someone in your family for some help. Keep your sentence short e.g. I had a van.

This morning we are going to do some dancing. Make sure you try your best so you are ready for the day.

Phonics Activity

Today we are going to practice reading some words that end in an ‘s’. Watch the video and see if you can join in. After watching the video, try reading some words that have an ‘s’ at the end and also try to write some. Can you say a sentence using one of your words?

Maths Activity

Today, we are going to do some counting and also sort the numbers 9 and 10. Watch the video and see if you can sort some of the numbers.

Reading

Yesterday, we looked at the story of the Gingerbread man. Can you remember what happened at the beginning, the middle and the end. If not, I would like you to watch the video again. After watching the video, I would like you to draw a picture to show what happens at the beginning, what happens in the middle and what happens at the end. After drawing your picture I would like you to retell the story to someone in your family. You could act it out together or you could tell them your story using your picture to help you remember. Here is the video if you would like to watch it again.

Other activities:

  • Read a phonics book on oxford owl or you can read your own phonics book if you have one. Remember to keep practicing so you become fluent with reading. Free eBook library | Oxford Owl from Oxford University Press
  • Fine Motor – practice using your fingers to help get them super strong. You could do this by collecting some clothes pegs out of your garden and try to peg them onto something. You could peg them onto some string and see how many you can fit on or you could peg them all around a cup and then count them.
  • Make a pattern. You could do a pattern using colours e.g. red, blue, red, blue or using different sized objects e.g. short, tall, short, tall.
  • Writing – practice your writing skills by writing me a letter or a card to give to me when you come back to school. I would love it if you could draw me some pictures of the thing you have been doing during your time at home.

Well done Reception, your work for today is complete. I hope you have had a lovely day. Take lots of care, Miss Stone x
