Learning and caring together

Thursday 21st January – Reception

Hello Reception,

Happy Thursday! I hope you are all having a fantastic week. School is very quiet without you all, hopefully we will be back together soon. Bella and Woody have been a bit cheeky and keep making a big mess of our classroom. I have told them to tidy up so lets hope they know how to tidy up very well.

Please remember I will do 2 drop-in zoom sessions a day, one at 10.30am and one at 2pm. You can ask any questions you wish to or show me some of your work. I will also read a story on an afternoon so feel free to drop in.

This morning your job is to practice writing some numbers. I would like you to write the numbers from 0-20 on some paper. Then cut them up and put them in the correct order.

This morning’s exercise is yoga. Here is the link:

Phonics Activity

This morning, I would like you to watch the video to help learn how to write a sentence. We are going to use some words which include our new phoneme ‘x’ in our sentences.

After watching the video, I would like you to try and write some words yourself. Then, you could use one of those words to write a sentence. Remember to do your best handwriting and hold your pencil properly.

I would also like you to watch the alphabet song. Talk to your family about the alphabet and how every letter has a name and a sound.

Maths Activity

In maths today I would like you to go around your house and collect 6 different objects. Then I would like you to see which object is the biggest and which is the smallest. You could put them in a row from biggest to smallest. Have a look at my photo of the objects I collected. I put the biggest first all the way down to the smallest. How do you know its bigger? tell someone in your family how you know one is bigger than the other.

Reading

Today, I would like you to choose a story and read it with someone in your family. After reading the story, you could think of something you might change in the story. I am going to read the three little pigs but I am going to change the pig characters to horse characters.

If you change the story you could then make a front cover for your story. I am going to make a front cover by drawing pictures of 3 horses and putting the title “The three large horses”.

Other activities:

  • Read a phonics book on oxford owl or you can read your own phonics book if you have one. Remember to keep practicing so you become fluent with reading. Free eBook library | Oxford Owl from Oxford University Press.
  • Measure the people in your house. You could use a tape measure to do this or you could see who is tallest and who is smallest. You could measure them using your hands and see how many hands it takes you to get from their feet to their head.
  • Try to catch something with someone in your family. You could use a ball to throw to each other and see if you can catch it. This could be done using any soft object.
  • Go on a treasure hunt around your house to find things beginning with ‘s’.

Well done Reception, your work for today is complete. Please try and upload your child’s work by completing the submission below. Please note, your child’s work will not be published on the website, it will be sent privately to me. Alternatively, if you have trouble uploading it below, please email the work over to me.
