Why is Art Successful at Handale Primary School?
Our Vision and Intent for Art at Handale...
Children to discuss what they know about art and in some cases the focussed artists’ style which they have studied throughout the year.
Children to have the skills to plan, create and evaluate pieces of art which will be shown through sketch books directly or through photographic evidence.
Children to have the confidence to discuss what materials and style they have used e.g. sketching, and to say whether their choice was the best or if it could be improved.
Children to enjoy art and build upon prior skills as they progress through school.
Children to understand that there are many artists in the world who all have different styles.
Children to know that art can be shown in different forms such as drawing, painting, chalking as well as creating other forms of art.
Children to be proud of what they have achieved.
Children to evaluate theirs and their peers’ work constructively in order for children to build on their individual skills.
Art to be sleek, exciting, colourful and creative as we focus on a range of pieces inspired by our local area as well as the wider world.

Key Stage 1
· To use a range of materials creatively to design and make products.
· To use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination.
· To develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.
· About the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work.
Key Stage 2
· To create sketch books to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas.
· To improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials (e.g. pencil, charcoal, paint, clay)
· About great artists, architects and designers in history.
