For the next three days in English, we will be working on a whole school writing theme. You will be writing letters to a child in 2030 about your experiences in 2020.
Today, I would like you to think back and reflect on last year and generate ideas for your writing. To do this, I would like you to create a collage showing all of the things that remind you of the year 2020. Your collage might include drawings, pictures or newspaper clippings of people wearing face-masks, following social distancing rules, using hand sanitiser, walking down empty streets, doing some home learning or general lockdown activities – or perhaps there’s something you’d like to include that is more personal to you. What activities did you do to have fun during lockdown? Did you celebrate anything? Did you enjoy clapping for carers? Remember, 2020 is not just defined by the pandemic. Later this week, we will be using a new book to base our adventure writing on in our English lessons. The book is called Quest and it is by Aaron Becker. This book is a picture book and has no words so it is up to the reader to look at the pictures and work out what is happening. This book is a sequel to the book 'Journey' which you may remember from our transition weeks in July if you attended those days. Now that you have watched the videos about earthquakes, I would like you to use your earthquake knowledge to make your own board game. It could be in the style of monopoly, snakes and ladders or one of your own ideas. Your board game needs to include earthquake questions. If a player gets a question incorrect they miss a go. Make sure you write the answers to your questions on a separate piece of paper. I have taken a picture of the board game that I have started making. I have included some earthquake questions but I still need to add more. I have also included boxes which tell players to move forwards, backwards or to miss a go. Remember to write the answers to your earthquake questions on another sheet of paper so that you can check your answers as you play.
