Learning and caring together

Monday 12th July 2021

Good morning Year 4! Here we are again! Unfortunately we won’t be able to spend our last week together but we are going to have lots of fun whilst at home. You have all worked your socks of this year, faced challenges and pushed yourselves and I am so proud of you all. Let’s complete this final week with 100% effort like you have all year and then it is time for a well rested summer.

I have set up a zoom call at 1pm for the week anybody would like to drop in or ask any questions! The link is at the bottom of the page.

Have a fantastic day Year 4, you can do it!

Spelling (15 minutes)

English (1 hour)

For your English task this morning, I would like you to use your creative writing skills and write a letter to Mrs Porter and Mrs Brodie to let them know a few things about yourself. This is a new and unusual time for everyone. You won’t get the chance to meet your new teachers before you go back to school but teachers love to receive letters from you and start to get to know you!

Use the structure below to write a letter to your new teacher.

To my new teacher, __________

Introduce yourself.

What are your interests, hobbies, favourites, any fun facts about yourself?

What did you enjoy during Year 4?

What wishes would you make for next year?

Anything else you want to say?

Maths (45 Minutes)

For maths today you have three summer holiday challenge questions. Think carefully. What method do you need to use? How many steps to complete the problems? Give them a go 🙂

Reading

For reading this afternoon I would like you to read a book to an adult. Record the following in your writing book.

Whilst reading, please can you select some tricky vocabulary words from your text and clarify these words. What do they mean? Why are they used? Use the internet to help you if you don’t know what they mean.

Also, whilst reading, look at some difficult explanation phrases you might not understand and ask a parent what they mean. If you are still struggling, type it in google and write down what you find.

At the end of your reading session, I would like you to summarise what has happened. What did you learn? What did you not expect?

When you’ve done that, take some time to just relax and read for another 5 or 10 minutes. Enjoy your reading time.

Afternoon

For your afternoon of home learning I want you to be creative. You are all fantastic artists and love drawing, painting and creating. Step away from the computer screen and grab a pen, pencils or even some paints if you have some. Take some time to relax and create something you want! A scene from the Euros? Your pet? Absolutely anything!
